After reading the book I was inspired by the main

elements of the story i.e. control, manipulation

and friendship and felt I could bring these 

characters to life.

 

Although the story is written about September’s

journey, the character that comes across to me as

being central to the story is the Marquess.  She

runs Fairyland with a tight fist and knows who is

coming and going.  She has her eyes and ears on

everyone. 

 

When I was designing the costumes for the book, I wanted to set it as a film. When I was designing the outfits I wanted it to look like a child had dreamt them up in their dreams. 

 

My aim was to have colourful 60/70s pop art inspired prints, but with a dark sinister element running though it.
